Updated Charges for Deobra Delone Redden

Deobra Delone Redden, the man who went viral after hurling himself at a Las Vegas judge and attacking her at her podium, has received updated charges. According to NBC News, Redden has been hit with attempted murder.

The charge adds to the 30-year-old’s battery and felony charges in the case, as previously reported by The Shade Room.

Court Appearance and Expanded Charges

According to the New York Post, Redden appeared in court on Tuesday, January 9, for a hearing regarding his viral attack on Judge Mary Kay Holthus.

The suspect’s charges from the incident now include “attempted murder against an older person, battery, intimidating a public officer with threat of force,” and extortion.

Additionally, Redden’s charges also include “disregarding the safety of a person resulting in substantial bodily harm.”

“Once he knew she was about to sentence him to prison, (Redden) did leap over defense counsel table into the well of the courtroom, thereafter rushing towards the judicial bench and jumping over it ‘superman’ style directly into Judge Mary Kay Holthus’s judicial space, landing directly on top of her and immediately attacking Judge Mary Kay Holthus by grabbing her, pulling her hair, placing his hands around her throat and/or hitting her on the head,” the criminal complaint against the suspect reads, per CNN.

According to CNN, Redden is also accused of assaulting a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer, a clerk, and bailiff. The man also allegedly spit on an officer during the attack.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Redden also informed authorities that he intended to kill the judge.

CNN adds that a new judge will preside over the case of Redden’s new charges. A preliminary hearing has reportedly been set for February 14.

The outlet adds that a new attorney has yet to be appointed for Redden.

Reactions on Social Media

Social media users entered The Shade Room’s comment section to share their mixed reactions to Redden’s attempted murder charge.

The Viral Attack Recap

As The Shade Room previously reported, Redden appeared before Judge Holthus for sentencing in an unrelated battery case on Wednesday, January 3.

His defense attorneys had previously advocated for him to receive probation in the case. However, due to his prior criminal record, Judge Holthus shared her intentions to give Redden a harsher sentencing.

“…I think it’s time that he get a taste of something else,” the judge told Redden and his attorneys. “Because I just can’t with that history.”

In response, Redden rushed the judge’s podium.

Redden allegedly left the judge with head injuries and a bailiff with a dislocated shoulder and 25 stitches for a face gash.

On Monday, Redden’s initial sentencing with Judge Holthus reconvened. He was sentenced to up to four years in prison for his initial battery case. Since then, everyone from social media users to TV jurist Judge Judy has weighed in on the viral moment.
