Tesla’s Charging Standard Gaining Popularity
The North American Charging Standard (NACS) pioneered by Tesla is becoming increasingly popular among electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers.
Volkswagen to Adopt Tesla’s NACS
Volkswagen has announced that it will adopt the NACS for its electric vehicles in North America, with plans to implement the change by 2025. This adoption will include Volkswagen Group’s subsidiaries Audi, Porsche, and Scout Motors. In addition to the future deployment, the manufacturer is also exploring ways to offer adapters for existing models.
Accessing Tesla’s Supercharger Network
With the integration of NACS, owners of Volkswagen electric vehicles will gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, which boasts over 15,000 stations across North America. Moreover, they will also be able to use more than 3,800 DC fast-charging stations managed by Electrify America and Electrify Canada.
Industry-Wide Adoption of Tesla’s NACS
Volkswagen is not the only automaker embracing NACS. Other industry giants such as GM, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, Honda, BMW, Lucid, and several others have also committed to support NACS in their future EVs.
Expansion of NACS by Charging Networks
Meanwhile, ChargePoint has started to roll out NACS connectors across their EV charging network as of October. Electrify America also plans to do the same by the year 2025. With an increasing number of players joining the NACS ecosystem, Tesla’s charging solution is rapidly becoming the leading standard in the electric vehicle industry.
