Xiaomi Addresses User Safety Concerns

On Monday, Xiaomi addressed concerns raised by its users regarding the unintentional opening of its smart door locks. The issue had become a topic of discussion among consumers questioning the safety of the lock. Xiaomi provided an explanation that the malfunctioning units seen in online videos feature semi-automatic lock bodies with in-line C-level lock cylinders, devoid of the auto-retraction feature that could cause such accidental openings. The company admitted that under certain conditions, such as a door not being fully closed or excessive door frame installation tolerance, the door might open on its own. They further affirmed that their smart lock is not designed to be remotely unlocked via the network.

Investigation and Quality Assurance Measures

In response to the incident, Xiaomi’s engineers performed on-site evaluations but were unable to replicate the issue depicted in the videos. The company also informed that it plans to bring in an independent third party to conduct further assessments on the product.
